Mashup Monday 2

Ahh, mashups… like today’s example… “ABC OPP“.

Mashups… when somebody (more talented than me) combines one or more song instrumentals with one or more song acapellas. The result can be funny, inspiring, impressive or just amazing to dance to.

Today’s mashup comes from a production duo that have done a HUGE amount for the mashup scene in the USA… and around the world. Oh, and it’s a hiphop track this time.

Today’s mashup is “ABC OPP” by A Plus D.

A Plus D is a duo (DJ Adrian and MysteriousD) who founded Bootie USA, which runs club nights in San Francisco and (occasionally) other major world cities. As well as promoting mashups – they also make some outstanding tracks themselves.

One example (sent to my newsletter subscribers last week) combines one of HipHops biggest loudmouths with a classical composer wearing disco flares. Mystified? Better sign up to Gabe’s Gazette.

Signing up for Gabe’s Gazette is also a chance to see some behind-the-scenes photos as I slowly work on my book, along with little snippets of exclusive news that I keep for my awesome subscribers.

Now, where was I?

Today’s mashup is also hiphop-inspired. The tracks titled “ABC OPP“. It’s quite a wicked combination… where Naughty by Nature’s classic track OPP meets the Jackson 5’s track ABC… and it just works.

Mind you, OPP already sampled ABC in the first place, so the seeds were there. (Thanks for the tipoff, WhoSampled.com)

So, got any fave mashups?
