So, December/January ’97/’98. Hitz FM was wrapping up its 13th broadcast and there was lots to celebrate. The station had attracted lots of celebrity drop-ins, including Dannii Minogue (on New Year’s Eve, no less!) and Kate Ceberano.

They’d given away bigger prizes than ever (one listener won a pinball machine, a Hard Rock Cafe denim jacket and a Hoyts Gold Pass!). And they’d got some fantastic promotion when president Andrew Gyopar and morning presenter Olivia Belvedere appeared on ABC TV’s Recovery with Dylan Lewis!

And when the broadcast finally wrapped up on Saturday January 24, 1998 – Hitz FM did it’s traditional Hitz 89 countdown. That was a user-voted selection of the top 89 songs of that Summer. And as you’ll hear in a minute, there were tonnes of great tracks. In fact, many of them turned up just 3 months later in one of the best Hitz FM CDs of all time – Hitz ONE.
