At last it’s finished. A four-and-a-half hour audio tribute to Hitz FM. First played at our staff reunion in August. And now completely re-edited for your audio enjoyment. Scroll on to see what’s in the mix, and most importantly – HIT THE PLAY BUTTON to listen.
Wait, you made this with MP3s?
When we had our 30 year Hitz FM staff reunion in August, I wanted to create a playlist for the night. But not a regular playlist. Something with all those songs you can’t get on Spotify. Exclusive remixes that Hitz FM was famous for. So that required going old-school. Yep – finding every song on MP3.
But which songs? How do you summarise Hitz FM’s 9 years in just 4.5 hours?
Well firstly I consulted my Hitz FM listener countdowns – they showed which songs were popular in the various broadcasts. Then I had a listen to a few of my Hitz FM recordings to find songs for the years when the charts weren’t available.
Even so, it was tricky to choose which songs went “in”. I ended up favouring songs that were played on Hitz (but less heard on other stations), along with more popular tracks. The remixes and megamixes that were unique to Hitz definitely went in too.
And what’s BETWEEN the songs?
Finally – Hitz didn’t just play music so this streaming recording doesn’t just have music. Between every single song you’ll hear a Hitz ID, promo or sponsor ad.
There’s some incredible stuff in there, from 1992 through to 2001. Memories like the controversial ‘Real Sound of Summer’ promo which declared all-out war on Fox FM. Ads for long-departed nightclubs like The Metro and The 75th Squadron. And a whole lot more.
From Guns n Roses to Gabrielle, from Sing Hallelujah to Silence, Run DMC to Rui Da Silva, it’s 4.5 hours of incredible Hitz FM music – and LOTS of surprises in between.
Enough talking, let’s play this thing!
NOTE: you SHOULD see a purple streaming box with a PLAY BUTTON.
